How to Fix a Leaking Tap

The most important step in fixing your leaking tap is the concentration meaning that do it when you are sure that no one will disturb you. Turn off the water supply and cover the hole of your wash basin so that the screws, washers and other tiny materials prevent from falling down in the drain. You may use a small container or box to put them in it. Now use your screw driver, uncover the top of your leaking tap you will find a screw over its top; unscrew it. Now use your wrench carefully to remove the head gear, otherwise you may damage the pipe and you would have to call the plumber to fix it. Don't do it in hurry.

Now remove the washer, because leaking tap is more often caused by having an old washer in the tap that has rusted over the years and causes the leakage of your tap. You may encounter some difficulty to remove it but don't hesitate. Split some oil over it for lubrication purpose. Take out this rusted washer and bring the new one of the same sizes also buys few in spare. These washers are so cheap so that you need not to purchase them again and again. After fitting the new washer you have to apply some grease on the base of the tap before putting everything back into its place. Now reassemble the tap and check if the problem has been solved.

If you still face leakage problem, repeat the whole mechanism again and make sure that there is no gap between the washer and the top of the tap because it may cause leakage again. Tightly screw all the nuts which you have unscrewed during the fixing of your leaked tap. If still the problem persists then call the nearest professional i.e. plumber immediately.
